Dr. payal amin

I have worked within both primary schools and the NHS to deliver psychological therapy since 2004. My area of interest lies within the impact our early life experiences have on our development as individuals and how this affects how we think and feel in the here and now. As a result of my own personal experiences, I have an interest in supporting mothers and fathers struggling with becoming a parent and the challenges this brings, including pre and post natal mental health struggles. I also have a specialised interest in working with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and have historically worked in a local specialist OCD clinic, and written group protocols for the psychological treatment for OCD, which continue to be delivered within local mental health services.
However, my interest in working with people and the struggles they face extends beyond any specific diagnosis. My aim is to help you live your life in a way that is meaningful to you, trying to help you address the difficulties you may face along the way.
I am very experienced in the practice of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which is often recommended for a number of mental health difficulties by the NICE Guidelines issued by the Department of Health. However, my training included a variety of therapeutic models, and as a Counselling Psychologist, I am continually updating my knowledge and practice of evidence-based therapies. The integration of these ideas would always be tailored to your needs, ensuring that therapy delivered is in line with your specific struggles.

I am an integrative practitioner in the NHS with several years of experience working in variety of specialist settings. This includes working with a wide range of diagnoses as well as severity levels from mild and moderate to severe and enduring mental health. Although my theoretical thinking is mostly driven by Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focussed Therapy (SFT), I place more importance on the impact of life experiences and situations on an individual in the “here and now”. I believe in helping people to achieve a better quality of life rather than be held a prisoner to any specific diagnosis.
My specialist interest is in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Currently I am working on developing a service for the veterans with PTSD within the large Mental Health NHS Trust that I am employed in. By updating my knowledge and practice of evidence based therapies regularly allows me to offer therapy that is in line with your specific needs.
